Jeremy Hansen

Jeremy Hansen of rural Smithfield NE only recently devoted his life to art. Hansen is a young emerging Nebraska artist expressing powerful energy in his work.

But he knew in college at the University of Nebraska at Kearney that he wanted to be a professional artist. Working as a graphic artist for a sign company initially paid the bills.

In May 2002, he took the leap to working exclusively as a professional artist, from the creation to the marketing of his own work. The timing was right for him.

The style he developed was immediately popular with the buying public, doing landscapes, flowers and other natural elements. He has described his style as floral displays with an expressionist feel, pushing toward abstraction.

He explains his work: “I refer to my images as ‘Interior/Exterior Landscapes.’ The primary form will refer to the human figure and/or forms found in geographical landscape. I paint from imagination trying to achieve an expression of energy, movement, and emotion. Painting with passion is essential. Using the fundamentals of color, contrast, and value, painter can transform a blank canvas into a beautiful extension of their own feeling.”

Initially he showed his work in nearby Kearney, Grand Island and Hastings, then gradually became active in shows in larger cities. Today, he travels to major cities nationwide. From a modest beginning, his works have been accepted in all of the top 100 shows in the country. He does around 25 art festivals a year and has 7 galleries that carry his work.
